My
Betfair blackjack page previously listed the house edge of the basic eight-deck game as 0.52%, giving an overall game return of 100.06%.
This figure was a tad too high; the actual house edge for eight-deck blackjack with these rules is 0.59%, which results in the stated 100% return with the other rules taken into consideration.
The error might have been the result of an assumption on my part of infinite splitting - this would in fact yield a house edge of 0.52%, and an overall return of 100.06%.
Apologies for the error. It was, however, extremely small, and would not have had serious consequences with perfect strategy employed, as there is still no theoretical disadvantage to the player in this game.
I'll sum up the basic calculations that lead to the 100% figure:
• The basic eight-deck game: -0.59%
• No ace splits: -0.17%
Total -0.76%
• Suited blackjack pays 2:1: +0.56%
• Five-card charlie pays 2:1: +0.2%
Total: 0%
Return: 100%
